In my high school English classes Mr. Van Natter taught me that all the best writing pieces start with what he termed his IBSQQSS. IBSQQSS is an acronym for a type of attention grabber, I = imagine (a short story), BS = bold statement, Q = question, Q = quote, S = statistic, S = I honestly can't remember the last S. Using one of these attention grabbers has been my tried and true method ever since. It even got me through graduate school and numerous 10-page research critiques. So it only seems fitting that the story of our new begins with the bold statement of "It all started with a couch." For quite some time I've felt like we've out grown our current home, in both location and function. I began looking at new homes in the Fall of 2019. At the time I was looking religiously at new subdivisions, existing homes, fixer uppers, you name it. But nothing ever felt right. Most homes within my price range were duds. Even the homes priced a little higher didn't catch my eye. After looking for a few months and conversing about moving with Brandon we determined now wasn't the time. We determined we'd save up and move when we had a heftier down payment.
Obviously, that decision changed or else you wouldn't be here reading this. One evening while attempting to improve the function of our current home I began to complain to Brandon over a couch I felt we've held on to for far too long. For a little history on this couch, Brandon got it before we married. At one time it lived in our living room, but was never used. Admittedly, I've always hated this couch. It's black microfiber. It shows every bit of dust and showcases an imprint of your backside once you get up from sitting on it. That evening I was frustrated and I wanted the couch gone. Immediately! We hadn't used it for years. It was taking up space and collecting dust in my seemingly tiny home. My complaining started an argument. (Shocker!) As a result of said argument I ended up looking online for a new home. That's when I found it! I found a lot in new subdivision in an area we agreed we'd like to live in. Better yet the home builder of that subdivision offered floor plans that particular me liked! It felt serendipitous. Long story short we decided moving into this subdivision is best for us.
